The Gallery has acquired several works of the late Chicago artist John L. Doyle (1939 -2010). Born in Chicago Illinois, Doyle received his bachelor’s degree at the Art Institute of Chicago, and his master’s degree at Northern Illinois University. He had more than 50 one man national exhibitions, participated in more than 30 national and international group exhibitions, is the recipient of more than 32 awards, including purchase prizes, and is listed in Who's Who in American Art.
Among the works acquired by the gallery are two magnificent complete suites from his The Great Human Race Series: The Medicine Men 119/150 and The Builders 86/150. And two very rare and stunning lithographs from the Red Race suite: Arrow Ceremony 75/75 and Falling Star 75/75.

The Great Human Race
Doyle’s, The Great Human Race, is series of lithographic portfolios finished in collaboration with Roland Poska, a Scotland born American artist, master printmaker, and paper-maker. Lithographs of exquisite detail, rendered in opulent colors and subtle gradations of tones, and flawless printing on BFK Rives and exceptional hand made colored papers. Doyle’s art reflects his fascination with the human condition and the nobility of the human spirit. Drawings produced by Doyle during his many years studying ethnology and anthropology became the foundation for the portfolios of The Great Human Race; a visual recording of the categorical statements about civilization and the cultural development of particular disciplines such as Medicine, Architecture, Law and Business.
The Medicine Men (119/150): This 1980 suite consists of ten five-color hand printed stone lithographs printed on BFK Rives paper and ten monochrome images, printed on handmade paper by master printer and paper-maker Roland Poska. The images are a visual interpretation of the individuals who were the sources for physical and spiritual healing of The Great Human Race. The priests, doctors, and scientists who performed divination, magic, religious rites, medicine and surgery are presented by a pair of images (one color and one monochrome). The edition size is 150. The edition number is 119/150. The paper size for the Portfolio Justification sheet and five pairs of artworks in the suite is 30" x 20". The paper size for the remaining five pairs of artworks is 20" x 16". All twenty images are from the 119th suite. The suite is presented in its original leather bound portfolio box. Each of the lithographs is in excellent/pristine condition and is signed in pencil by the artist.

The Medicine Men
The Builders (86/150): This 1983 suite consists of ten five-color hand printed stone lithographs printed on BFK Rives paper and ten monochrome images, printed on handmade paper by master paper-maker Roland Poska. The images are a visual interpretation of man's most enduring record of civilization, architecture. The structures presented are houses to live in, places to govern in, shrines to worship in, and tombs to be buried in. The Individual cultures are presented by a pair of images (one color and one monochrome). The edition size is 150. The edition number is 86/150. The paper size for the Portfolio Justification sheet and ten pairs of artworks in the suite is 30" x 20". All twenty images plus the justification sheet are from the 86th suite. Each of the lithographs is in excellent/ pristine condition and is signed in pencil by the artist.

The Builders
Falling Star 75/75: In an attempt to deal with the fearful forces of nature the Indians developed imaginative stories of folklore with a reverence for life. One of these stories, Falling Star and the Minh, deals with man, the spirits of thunder and the water monster called Minh. As the story goes a young brave, having been separated from his war party, encounters a river wherein the Minh resides. All attempts to cross are thwarted. As he reflects on the banks, a water fowl speaks to him and promises to intercede on his behalf and carries his plight to the Thunderbird; who in turn takes pity on Falling Star and flashes thunder and lightning, killing Minh, and carries the warrior safely across the river. The lithograph is 21"x 30" (framed 25"x 33") in excellent/ pristine condition and is signed in pencil by the artist.

Arrow Ceremony (Youth) 7575: To an Indian youth life was one of vigorous training. He was taught religion (the motivating force underlying everything he did), his heritage, and the arts of warfare. Bravery and courage were the stepping stones to manhood and the training he underwent brought out these qualities. The skills he learned were related to raiding, hunting, listening, observing, trailing, riding, and shooting. All this was to prepare him for the life of a mystical warrior of the Great Plains. One of the ceremonies which exemplify the results of this training was to shoot arrows directly overhead and let them fall amongst themselves. This exemplifies the skill, courage and underlying belief in him. The lithograph is 21"x 30" (framed 25"x 33") in excellent/ pristine condition and is signed in pencil by the artist.
